The adverse effects on your health are shockingly similar. From premature death to cancer, the end results of both habits are devastating. Statistics and studies reveal that both smoking and sitting for prolonged periods will drastically increase the risk for death from all causes. Heart disease, coronary artery disease, stroke, and even dementia to name a few. Absenteeism from work, diminished overall health, increased health care utilization and costs are secondary effects related to both smoking and prolonged sitting and inactivity.
Research abounds regarding the horrific and life-altering adverse effects of smoking. It’s no secret it will have a negative impact on your health.
The detrimental effects of sitting are escalating as technology rules our homes and businesses. Eight out of ten Americans sit 8 hours or more per day. Realistically most Americans are inactive twelve or more hours per day.
Due to the sheer numbers of people who are sedentary for the majority of the day, sitting and being Sedentary is arguably the greatest health risk facing our country today. Eight of ten people sit all day. Thank goodness eight out of ten people don’t smoke.
